Article: More coverage needed- 5/14/2010

Press & Sun-Bulletin

Why do cross country and swimming get less coverage than football and basketball while they're equally entertaining and exciting, and the athletes work at least as hard? You could call me biased because I am a cross country runner and used to be a swimmer, but I think athletes and coaches deserve recognition. Cross country is a called a lonely sport because the course isn't packed with people like at a football game, while in reality there is the same amount of spectators, if not more, than at football games. Also cross country races are way more exciting than a football game. In swimming, the ecstasy of a win and the agony of a loss are similar. However, it is contained in a much smaller area and thus gets very loud, only building the suspense quicker. No race takes more than 10 minutes, and everyone cheers the whole time.

Please email or contact board members for us. Please let them know we need Cross Country. BBC News says Physical exercise makes someone smarter, specifically distance running. Another study showed Cross Country had the highest average GPA of any sport in America. Cross Country is a lifestyle to us, please help save it!
